The 2019 Nissan Leaf is about to get a new, long-range version. One of the most popular electric cars around has been present on the market for years. The original version came in 2010, although development started way back in the late 90’s. After seven years of production, the company has decided to offer a completely new version. This redesign has brought numerous novelties. Of course, the focus was on things like longer range, better performances etc. Still, the second generation offers much more than that, including things like completely new design, attractive styling, more comfortable interior etc.

This car is also full of equipment. Even the base model is characterized by an impressive list of standard features. For the next year, the company prepares a new, extended-range version, which will provide more than 225 miles on a single charge. The 2019 Leaf is coming pretty soon.

The most important novelty for the next year will definitely be a new battery pack, which will provide a much longer range. So far, there was just one version in the offer, with 40-kWh battery. With such capacity, this compact electric car is capable to make around 150 miles on a single charge. The next year will bring an optional long-range version. This model will feature a 60-kWh battery pack, which should be enough to provide more than 200 miles on a single charge. According to some reports, it will go over 225 miles.

Besides the new battery, performances will remain the same. Both versions will feature the same electric motor which comes in a pair with a single-speed constant ration transmission. A total output goes around 150 horses and 236 pound-feet of torque. This amount of power provides far better results compared to the first generation. While the original model needed more than 10 seconds to reach 60, this one is much quicker and gets the same speed in just 7.5 seconds. These numbers are comparable with many models with internal-combustion engines of similar size. On the other side, it benefits in terms of a far better fuel economy.

Speaking of design characteristics, 2019 Nissan Leaf won’t be much different compared to the current model. The recent redesign has brought numerous changes. One of them is a completely new styling. The new model follows the brand’s new design language, but also adds several distinctive details, in order to accentuate car’s electric character.

On the inside, this compact car seems pretty attractive as well. The dash looks pretty stylish, while hi-quality materials definitely give that hi-grade feeling. In terms of equipment, there are three trim levels in the offer. While the base S trim is pretty much a bare bone and comes with only unnecessary things, SV and SL trims add plenty of things, including latest hi-tech features like touchscreen interface, advanced safety systems, premium audio system and much more.

We are eagerly waiting for a new version to come. When it comes to the base model, it will continue with the same 40-kWh battery and probably won’t feature bigger changes, except some additional standard features. So, don’t expect bigger changes in price.

Base models will go around 30.000-31.000 dollars. On the other side, a new 60-kWh version will definitely add a thousand or two to the base price. Although this car is one of the most popular models among electric cars, competition is getting tougher and tougher.

The 2019 Nissan Leaf will compete with models like VW e-Golf, Chevrolet Bolt, Kia Soul EV, Ford Focus Electric, and even Tesla Model 3.
