Despite the big decline, sedans still play an important role on the market. Therefore, Nissan won’t give up from its flagship model, which has been around for decades. Latest reports are suggesting that the next generation will come in the next couple of years. The current version has been updated last year, so the 2020 Nissan Maxima should be pretty much a carryover model, without more important updates.

The recent refresh has brought a couple of subtle styling changes, so we count on the same styling in the following years. Also, the upcoming model shouldn’t feature bigger changes in terms of standard features, though a couple of additions are possible. Therefore, don’t expect any earlier arrival than usual. The 2020 Nissan Maxima should hit the market sometime late in the year.

2020 Nissan Maxima Redesign

The Maxima is Nissan’s flagship sedan, which has been around for decades. Therefore, we feel there is no need to waste too many introduction words. Like most models from this carmaker, it rides on a familiar D platform, so it’s no wonder it delivers pretty amazing handling and driving dynamics. Also, it comes with pretty attractive styling. The recent update has brought a couple of interesting changes, so the full-size sedan now looks even better. Speaking of the changes, most of the car to the front end.

The most notable is a new grille, which now goes deeper and looks more prominent. Along with tweaked bumper, it continues the evolution of the company’s familiar V-Motion design language. Other than that, we saw a couple of more details, as well as those typical things like new colors and sets of wheels. All in all, things should remain pretty much the same for the next year.

Interior

When it comes to the interior design, this sedan has several strong points, but also a couple of weaknesses. The first impression of this car is the quality of materials, which is at a very high level, almost on par with luxury cars. However, the cabin could be more functional and more practical. The first complaint goes for the legroom in the second row, which isn’t that bad, but rivals offer more. Same goes for the cargo area. Its trunk is good for 14.3 cubic feet, which definitely aren’t impressive numbers. Interestingly, even the mid-size Altima has more space behind rear seats.

Trim Levels

We are pretty sure that the base trim level organization won’t change, though it’s possible to see a few additions for each version. In any case, count on five familiar versions of this sedan. The base S model will already come with a fine number of standard features. Some of the highlights are 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, fog lights, 8-inch touchscreen, Appl CarPlay, and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, 8-speaker audio system, satellite radio and more.

The SV adds leather upholstery, as well as safety features like adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

The SL is next in the line. It adds some pretty amazing features, such as active noise reduction, ambient interior lighting, premium audio system, heated steering wheel, dual-panel sunroof many more. We believe this version offers the best value for the money.

Still, if you want more luxury, there are two more trim levels in the offer. The SR adds things like ventilated front seats, simulated-suede seat inserts, special interior trim. More importantly, it brings several mechanical upgrades which improve overall performances, Count on ungraded suspension, brakes, bigger wheels etc.

Finally, there is the Platinum trim level, which is all about comfort and convenience. It comes with things like upgraded leather upholstery, automatic wipers, a surround-view parking camera, a power-adjustable steering column and much more.

2020 Nissan Maxima Engine

Powertrain and performances are definitely the best things about this sedan. As we already mentioned, the Maxima offers pretty good handling, pretty amazing for a full-size car. Moreover, it comes with excellent driving dynamics, thanks to a punchy V6 engine. Of course, we are talking about the well-known 3.5-liter V6, which in this case delivers around 300 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque and comes in a pair with a CVT. With such amount of power, it’s no wonder it is one of the quickest models in the class. For example, it needs less than 6 seconds to get to 60 mph.

2020 Nissan Maxima side view

When it comes to fuel economy, things are good and bad at the same time. Numbers like 20 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway are great for the class, without any doubt. However, the problem is that the Maxima requires premium fuel, so you won’t save too much, despite good mph ratings.

2020 Nissan Maxima Release Date and Price

Given the fact that there are no bigger changes to come, the 2020 Nissan Maxima should arrive sometime late in the year. The price should change too much, so base models are expected to go around 33.000 dollars.
