The latest reports are suggesting that the 2021 Infiniti QX60 is about to come completely redesigned. If we consider the model’s age, this makes perfect sense. The current generation has been around 2012, which makes it one of the oldest models in the segment. Also, the model lags behind many competitors in terms of ride quality and overall performances. The Japanese manufacturer has a lot of jobs to do to make this crossover competitive once again.
The 2021 Infiniti QX60 should come with significant changes in various aspects. First of all, we count on a new platform and completely new mechanics. Of course, a new styling is a certain thing as well. Finally, novelties are expected under the hood as well. Given all the changes, we are pretty sure that the new model will hit the market a little bit earlier than usual, probably in the third quarter of the next year.
2021 Infiniti QX60 Redesign
The upcoming redesign will bring a lot of novelties but the first thing that comes to mind is the platform. The current model rides on a good-old D platform and features the same mechanics as the Pathfinder. In practice, this means that the current model isn’t particularly athletic. Moreover, the ride can be pretty harsh sometimes.
All this indicates that the QX60 definitely needs a new platform. Of course, we expect to see 2021 Infiniti QX60 riding on the newer CMF architecture, which already underpins smaller crossovers from Nissan and Infiniti. We count on significantly improved handling, but on better performances as well, including better efficiency. The new platform also means we can count on new engines.
In terms of size, we may see slight changes. In order to provide more space in the third row, we presume the new model would get a couple of more inches in wheelbase.
When it comes to styling, we count on a lot of improvements. The last time we saw changes in this model was three years ago. For that occasion, the QX60 was adapted to the brand’s, at the time, new design language. We count on further aesthetical updates in the future. First of all, we don’t expect to see any significant changes in terms of the overall shape. On the other side, we presume the new model will get completely new aesthetics. Naturally, we count on a lot of similarities with the new QX50. We count on the same front face, but a couple of distinctive details are expected as well. As we already mentioned, the new model could become slightly bigger, though the overall shape will remain pretty much the same.
This is where we have really big expectations. The current model definitely pays a debt to its age. The dashboard looks really outdated. First of all, the material quality isn’t on the level you would expect from today’s luxury crossover. Also, the center stack is far more appropriate to some 10-year old BoF vehicle than to a crossover.
Therefore, we count on significant improvements in the new model. A new dashboard with many fine materials is something we expect. Also, the latest reports are suggesting the new model will get a completely new infotainment system. Instead of a dual-screen setup that characterizes many new Infiniti models, we will see a new layout, with one but a pretty big screen and more features.
Also, the new model should get a couple of inches in the wheelbase, so we may expect more legroom. This particularly refers to the third row of seats, which is pretty tight in the current model. Also, we expect a little bit more space in the cargo area.
2021 Infiniti QX60 Engines
As we’ve just mentioned, a new platform usually means new engines. Therefore, we do not doubt that the 2021 Infiniti QX60 will come with notable improvements in this aspect. When it comes to base models, we count on a 2.0-liter turbo-four, one of Nissan’s latest engines. It is good for 268 horsepower and also comes with variable compression. In practice, this means you can get pretty amazing mpg ratings. On the other side, higher trims will probably come with something more powerful. Of course, the first engine that comes to mind is a 3.0-liter turbo V6. This engine already powers models like Infiniti Q50 and Q60 and it comes in two output variants, with either 300 or 400 horsepower.
2021 Infiniti QX60 Release Date and Price
The latest reports are suggesting that the 2021 Infiniti QX60 could hit the market sometime in the second half of the next year. The third quarter sounds most likely. When it comes to the price, the current model goes in a range between 44.500 and 49.000 dollars, so we may expect similar figures from the new model.
