Nissan is bringing back the Quest minivan. Its retirement didn’t last for too long. This class is going to be revived once again, but this time on the new platform. Well, the battle against crossovers and SUVs will continue, but the 2021 Nissan Quest is going to stand more chances than its predecessors. The company announced radical changes that will make this class popular again. The good thing is that competition is not too tough since other carmakers are also uninterested in the further development of MPVs.
So, what would be these big changes on the 2021 Nissan Quest? First of all, we believe that the vehicle could get a hybrid engine. Even the plug-in system is possible since the new Rogue is going to present it. What’s more, the interior should be more comfortable, not only compared to previous editions, but to SUV class. Well, this is the biggest advantage over SUVs. With extra space, the minivan will be more useful for commercial purposes.

Possible Engines, Capabilities, Diesel
The new 2021 Nissan Quest will rely on the old drivetrains. It is a 3.5-liter V6 powerplant. The engine is good for 295 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque, which allows the vehicle using it to tow up to 6,000 pounds. The drivetrain could be retuned to pull even more. Fuel economy should be around 23-24 mpg combined, which is not bad for the vehicle of Quest’s size.
The base setup includes continuously variable transmission and the two-wheel drive. The all-wheel drive is not certain since the MPV’s predecessor also dropped this configuration. The new generation of the minivan could add it as an extra option. It will improve traction, but the vehicle is not an off-road tuned, so it doesn’t need too much grip.
Outside the US, the company will use one of its reliable diesel units. We can find possible solutions under the hood of the Navara truck. A 2.5-liter model is the most powerful and it could suit perfectly in the engine room. It delivers up to 175 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque.

2021 Nissan Quest Hybrid
Well, the stories about the hybrid unit are louder and louder. The company is going to pause all developments for 2020 and launch new versions of vehicles in the following year. Well, that is why believe that 2021 Nissan Quest is coming back.
But, the main focus is on the hybrid source of power. Not only crossovers and SUVs but also other classes, including minivan and trucks. It is not a secret that Infiniti QX60 is a priority, as well as Nissan Pathfinder and Frontier truck. A hybrid setup is going to combine a V6 engine with an electric battery and the combination is going to produce at least 315 horsepower. Besides that, the fuel economy will jump and we can expect the new MPV returning at least 29 mpg combined.
What’s more, there are stories about the PHEV model. However, this is not so easy to predict, since Nissan is yet to deliver the regular hybrid. But, the new concepts, Ariya in the first place, are allowing engineers to make more electric vehicles, including EVs as the final stage of the evolution.
Changes on the 2021 Nissan Quest
Besides the mechanical updates, the cosmetic changes will make the 2021 Nissan Quest more attractive. One of the major differences compared to the previous version could be the extra seat. The new minivan is going to offer eight seating spots. This was one of the things experts criticized the most since the Armada SUV has room for eight occupants. Well, this could be an option for higher trim levels.
Speaking of models, we believe that standard trims will be S, SL, and SV. However, we must leave other options open, especially for Limited and Platinum editions. Well, these will belong to premium classes and buyers will probably choose the new Infiniti QX80 based on the Monograph platform. Still, the minivan will offer plenty of features that will make commuting easier.

Rivals
There are no too many MPVs left on the market. As said, SUVs and crossovers are too versatile and this segment was hit first. So, besides Nissan, the other two Japanese carmakers are going to deliver their units in this class – Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna. Also, there is a Korean representative, Kia Sedona. Domestic carmakers are also out of the league. Only FCA delivers two models – Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Pacifica, which is the only hybrid in the market at this moment.
2021 Nissan Quest Prices
The starting cost of the 2021 Nissan Quest will have to be around $30,000. Well, the Japanese carmaker usually launches a lighter entry-level version with a lower price compared to the competition. But, it is way from the offer by its rivals, so the equal version will cost pretty much the same. On the other side of the offer will be models with a $40,000 price tag.
We own (and LOVE) our 2013 Nissan Quest. However, we have put over 100K miles on it.
We wanted to replace it; but could not find a 2020 Quest.
The only problem we’ve had with it are the “decorative aprons” on the bottom of the doors which I hope the 2021 DOES NOT have them – just paint the sides!!
I read that there is a possibility of a 2021 Quest and would like to know if this is the case, we will wait for it. Otherwise, because of the mileage and plans for more road trips, we will need to replace it with our 2nd Choice: Chrysler Pacifica.
Is a 2021 Nissan (8-Passenger) Quest a FOR SURE event??? Thank you.
As there was a big drop in sales of minivan vehicles, Nissan stopped producing Quest back in 2017. There have been some rumors about comeback in 2021 but so far nothing has been confirmed. The Nissan Pathfinder is a replacement for the Quest, but Pathfinder is SUV not minivan.
