2021 Nissan Xterra Comeback, Rumors, Specs

0

Bringing back familiar nameplates is popular these days. Classic BoF SUVs are still quite popular, despite that crossovers took over the market. Therefore, it’s no wonder that many reports are suggesting a comeback of this compact SUV, which has been in production between 1999 and 2015. For all those years, we saw two generations. The second one came in 2005, along with the current-generation Frontier, which is still in production. Considering that the popular truck is about to receive a complete overhaul in the next year, many expect to see 2021 Nissan Xterra as well.

This comeback would bring a lot of novelties, but some familiar design solutions as well. Despite a completely new layout, we would see an overall design that comes in a typical SUV manner, which accentuates off-road capabilities and rugged overall appearance. At this point, the new SUV is just a rumor, so take the following paragraphs with a big reserve. Still, keep also in mind that many reports suggest its arrival in the next year, which definitely means something.

2021 Nissan Xterra Redesign

The easiest aspect of 2021 Nissan Xterra to predict is the overall layout. In this aspect, things are pretty clear. The new SUV would be based on the next-generation Frontier, which in practice means sticking to a familiar F-Alpha platform. This architecture may be old but with a couple of modifications, it can be pretty amazing, which is what we can see in Navara. The internationally-offered truck has been redesigned five years ago and we so significant updates on this platform. The results were amazing, as the Navara is still one of the best trucks on the market, which delivers an amazing balance between capabilities and driving experience. Both 2021 Nissan Xterra and Frontier would come with similar modifications, which should provide similar results.

Exterior

When it comes to the exterior design, the first thing we should mention is the size. The previous generation was pretty compact in size, as it measured 106 inches in the wheelbase. The latest reports are suggesting that the new model could be a little bit bigger and compete in the segment of mid-size SUVs. This is practically the segment where you can find most BoF vehicles, where key rivals would be models like Jeep Wrangler, Toyota 4Runner and the upcoming Ford Bronco.

When it comes to the styling, we presume that the 2021 Nissan Xterra won’t bring any surprises. We count on a classic design language, something similar to the current-generation Navara. The popular truck features quite conventional design solutions, which aren’t entirely adapted to the brand’s latest design language. We like it and we may presume that the company would add all those plastic surfaces that characterized previous generations.

Interior

It seems too early to talk about interior details at this point. The new 2021 Nissan Xterra is still far away from serial production, but we may presume it would feature pretty much the same cabin as the new Frontier. This means a dashboard design that would put the focus on functionality, instead of some fancy stylish details and too many soft-touch materials. Still, we count on a full load of latest tech features, including an advanced infotainment system, smartphone integration and all other kinds of connectivity features.

In terms of the cabin space and layout, we presume that the new model will keep two rows of seats, despite it will probably become a mid-size SUV. Eventually, the third row should be an option. When it comes to the cargo space, we count on a decent volume, while the boxy shape should be perfect for large and bulky objects.

2021 Nissan Xterra Engines

When it comes to the powertrain, it’s still hard to predict the exact unit for the 2021 Nissan Xterra. At this point, we know for sure that there won’t be any form of electrification. Most likely, we will see a typical V6 unit, maybe even a 3.0-liter turbo V6 with around 300 horsepower. Some reports also suggest a new turbo-four for base models, which also sounds likely.

In any case, we count on loads of off-road upgrades. Locking differential, crawl control and all other kinds of off-roading aids are something that would make 2021 Nissan Xterra a genuine off-roader.

2021 Nissan Xterra Release Date and Price

As we already mentioned, the 2021 Nissan Xterra is just a rumor at this point. We are still waiting to hear something from the officials on this matter. We presume more details will be known soon, once we get information about the next-generation Frontier. Another thing that bothers us is the price. We presume that base models will go around 30.000 dollars, which is a sum that can make this model quite competitive. Speaking of the competition, there are models like Jeep Wrangler, Toyota 4Runner, Ford Bronco etc.
