Recently, we learned more about Nissan’s plans for the future. Called the Ambition 2023, Nissan delivered a plan that includes 23 models, of which 15 are completely electric. Some of the models should start arriving later next year. One of the models that caught the most attention is the 2024 Nissan Leaf.
According to multiple reports, this iconic hatchback will be transformed into a crossover. Moreover, the new model will use the same architecture as the electric Nissan Ariya SUV. It could be a new chapter for the Leaf hatchback, this time in a completely new form. There are a couple of possible outcomes, so here is everything you need to know.
Exterior Design
The 2024 Nissan Leaf will borrow a lot of things from the Nissan Ariya model, including the platform. Allegedly, the new Leaf will arrive as a crossover and it will use a design inspired by the Chill Out concept from 2021.
If this is correct, then the new Leaf will provide a higher ride height and a coupe-like roofline. This model will reportedly look very modern and sharp, while the rear section will look closer to the Nissan Z sports car. On the other hand, some things will be borrowed from the Ariya SUV.
New Crossover Could Wear Leaf Moniker
According to Nissan, the brand has no plans for the Leaf hatchback. However, the nameplate could survive, although this is not official. Anyway, the 2024 Nissan Leaf is the current name of the new electric crossover that is on the way.
Nissan confirmed that the new crossover will be all-electric and it will be a direct replacement for the Leaf hatchback. Again, the brand didn’t specify the name, so there is a possibility that the crossover will get a brand-new moniker.
Nissan Leaf Specs
This new crossover dubbed the 2024 Nissan Leaf will sit on the CMF-EV platform. It is the same architecture that underpins Nissan Ariya and Renault Megane Electric models. The electric setup in the Megane E-TECH model produces up to 219 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque.
On top of that, it comes with a 60kWh battery pack and it delivers almost 300 miles of driving range. Of course, the crossover will be able to accommodate an even bigger battery, so we expect a better driving range and slightly more power.
Launch Date
The 2024 Nissan Leaf will be on sale later in 2023, per source. This model will be built in England, in Nissan’s Sunderland plant. Of course, the official launch date is not available yet. Therefore, this new model could arrive at some point in 2024 as well. Anyway, we are waiting to hear more details about this model, including its design, dimensions, interior, and engine specs.
The Japanese automaker will launch 15 brand-new electric vehicles in the next seven years. Some models are already familiar, including the Ariya crossover, Townstar panel van, and the electric successor of the Micra model.
