According to the most recent reports, Nissan could discontinue the Maxima sedan. This means the 2024 Nissan Maxima could be the last model to reach production. It is Nissan’s flagship sedan, but sedans are not as popular as before. Even other carmakers such as Toyota or Dodge are also slowly killing the lineup of sedans.
Maxima is a large sedan but that doesn’t help a lot, as the buyers are more into crossover and SUVs nowadays. In Europe, the sedan segment is still alive, but that won’t last forever. The end of the Maxima model is still just a rumor. Nissan didn’t provide any official details. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming Maxima.
Is Redesign on the Cards?
The 2024 Nissan Maxima could get a redesign. Whatsoever, the 2023MY didn’t arrive yet, so we’ll know more about this sedan in the following weeks. Surely, if this sedan is not discontinued, then redesign is the only outcome. Recently, this model received only minor updates and all of the trim levels are now more expensive than before. The 2022MY came with only one new standard feature, which is a disappointment.
There are only two ways for this sedan: the end of production or a complete redesign. Some reports are predicting the discontinuation where Nissan will replace the Maxima sedan with a new crossover. At this point, we don’t have official details, which means this sedan will remain a mystery for another month or two.
If redesign truly happens, then the 2024 Nissan Maxima will receive an interior overhaul. We like the current cabin design, as it looks elegant and modern. However, only the range-topping trim level provides a high level of comfort and real luxury. The redesign will surely provide larger infotainment touchscreens, more safety aids, and more upright materials. Nissan could redesign the dashboard and install a new steering wheel. Of course, new phone integrations, Wi-Fi, and similar amenities are a must.
No Changes Under the Hood
Under the hood, the new 2024 Nissan Maxima will most likely keep the current engine. It is a reliable 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine with 300 horsepower. On top of that, this unit provides a torque of 260 lb-ft. The front-wheel-drive system comes as standard, along with the automatic CVT transmission.
Per reports, Nissan is replacing this gearbox for years now, but nothing actually happened. Again, this is a must for the Maxima sedan if Nissan plans to improve this model. New engine option is unlikely, including mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants. Generally, nothing will mechanically change, except the rumored nine-speed automatic transmission.
2024 Nissan Maxima Price, Release Date
This is a tricky one. For a start, Maxima is not an affordable sedan as it costs around $37,000. The redesign will surely increase the price of the 2024 Nissan Maxima. On the other hand, Nissan can’t afford that, as the goal is to boost the sales of this large sedan. We are waiting to hear official words, as some reports are saying Maxima will face the end of production.
