The next 2025 Nissan Frontier is about to introduce one significant upgrade. Reportedly, this popular pickup truck should be available with an all-electric powertrain. That’s right, Frontier is entering the race for the best EV on the market. It is a reliable model, but we don’t know what Nissan prepared.
Many experts believe that the Japanese automaker will target an impressive driving range, which is one way to beat the competition. In reality, Frontier will have a hard time equaling towing and hauling capabilities of likes such as GMC Hummer EV truck, or Ford F-150 Lightning. Still, everything is far from official, so here’s what we know so far about this potential model.
Nissan Frontier EV – Will It Happen?
Nissan has expressed its commitment to electrifying its pickup truck lineup. Recently, the company showcased the Surf-Out concept, which provides a glimpse into Nissan’s vision of an all-electric pickup. There are various speculations regarding whether this concept will go into serial production. Some sources suggest that it could preview the all-electric successor of the Titan, while others believe it could be a small unibody pickup to compete with models like the Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz.
However, it is possible that Nissan will opt for a more realistic approach initially. The Frontier has been a popular model for the company for some time, and using its familiar nameplate could be a great way to kickstart the electrification process. This could lead to the launch of the 2025 Nissan Frontier EV, featuring an all-electric powertrain on a familiar platform and design, similar to what Ford has done with the F-150.
Interior Updates
Assuming the 2025 Nissan Frontier EV scenario, we do not anticipate significant revisions to the interior design. Rather, we expect to see the same cabin layout and dashboard, possibly with a slightly different instrument cluster adapted to the all-electric setup.
It is currently unknown where the batteries would be located, whether under the floor or elsewhere. Therefore, it is difficult to determine whether interior space would be affected. It is also likely that the all-electric Frontier would only be available in a Crew Cab layout.
Engine Specs and EV Rumors
The powertrain of the 2025 Nissan Frontier EV is still a mystery, but we can expect it to be a dual-electric motor setup with a battery capacity similar to the Ariya SUV, which offers 63 or 87 kWh. The Ariya can deliver up to 389 horsepower, which would be plenty for the all-electric Frontier. It’s unclear where the batteries would be placed and how it would affect the payload or towing capacity of the truck.
As for the standard Frontier, it will likely continue with a 3.8-liter V6 gas engine, producing 310 horsepower, coupled with a 9-speed automatic transmission. It remains to be seen if Nissan will offer different engine options or powertrain configurations for the standard Frontier.
2025 Nissan Frontier Price and Release Date
Of course, the all-electric 2025 Nissan Frontier would cost significantly more than the base gas-powered Frontier. While the regular model starts at around $30,000, the all-electric version should be available for above $40,000. Reportedly, the sales will begin later in 2024.
