Infiniti I-Power Technology is Just Around the Corner

0

Electrification is on the way and every established manufacturer is doing exactly that. Nissan is just one of many carmakers, but what about Infiniti? Nissan’s luxury brand is not doing so well at the moment. The sedan lineup is slowly dying and the lineup of crossovers and SUVs is solid. However, Infiniti will definitely deliver major upgrades, especially in terms of powertrain options. That includes the new I-Power system, which will be a game changer. Moreover, new models such as the QX55 coupe crossover are here, which is always a positive thing. However, like Nissan’s e-Power setup, Infiniti’s I-Power powertrain will bring good things, so here’s everything you need to know.

What is It?

Right now, we don’t know that much about the Infiniti I-Power hybrid setup. However, we know it is a version of Nissan’s e-Power technology. Currently, the e-Power system is available in models such as X-Trail, Qashqai, and Note. According to Infiniti, the I-Power system will power the brand’s future vehicles. The e-Power technology is not like some other conventional hybrid systems. While regular hybrids are using both the engine and electric motor to power the wheels, e-Power uses the engine to power the generator.

According to Nissan, this strategy is beneficial for a variety of reasons. That includes things such as improved all-electric range, additional torque, and much more. Usually, Nissan pairs it with smaller displacements such as a 1.2-liter or 1.5-liter engine with either three or four cylinders. On the other hand, Infiniti I-Power will be more performance-oriented.

Infiniti QX55 I-Power is Happening

Reportedly, the first model that will deploy a new powertrain is the 2024 Infiniti QX55. Back in the day, it was the FX model, the brand’s first coupe-like crossover SUV. It was a groundbreaking model indeed, especially when equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 engine. Now, Infiniti tries to replicate the same formula with the QX55 model, which is based on the FX variant. The idea is to provide a fuel-friendly model and mix it with luxury. However, a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine didn’t impress that much. Yes, it delivers 270 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque.

Moreover, it uses a smooth CVT automatic transmission. However, fuel efficiency is not so great, which doesn’t fit the brand’s new strategy. Therefore, the Infiniti I-Power system could be the game changer for this model. The QX55 variant will be the first one to receive this sophisticated piece of technology, per reports. Hopefully, it will drastically improve the vehicle’s fuel efficiency, while providing over 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque.

What to Expect?

The Infiniti I-Power will be offered in all of the brand’s upcoming vehicles. After all, Infiniti filled a trademark, which is categorized under Goods and Services. The QX55 model will receive it first, followed by the next-gen Infiniti QX60 model. So far, we don’t have much info about the I-Power system, but it shouldn’t depart from Nissan’s e-Power variant.
